Take a [ decolonized ]
walk with me.
Og'a Pogeh Owingeh / Santa Fe
Join me for an Indigenous Walking Tours of downtown O’ga Pogeh Owingeh, White Shell Water Place, most recently known as Santa Fe. Through the lens of an Indigenous scholar, you will learn about 3 waves of colonialism impacting the original peoples of northern New Mexico. Colonizers memorials, fancy art galleries and Catholic churches may today stand in what is the downtown area of O’ga Pogeh but if you want to see under that surface to the real history of the Native peoples of this area you need to see it through the eyes and heart of a Native American guide steeped in history and knowledge of the town.
Book a two hour tour for yourself, or a group of up to 25 people.
"As someone who travels regularly for work, I've learned that the most meaningful professional experiences often happen outside the conference room. Visiting Santa Fe for the first time, I leapt at the opportunity to join Dr. Christina Castro's Decolonized Walking Tour (and it became the highlight of my trip). Moving through the downtown plaza, Dr. Castro brought the landmarks and monuments to life through the all-too-often erased narratives of pueblo peoples resisting colonial rule and the ways that history reverberates into the present. It was genuinely transformative; the kind of experience that shifts how you see a place and its people. This tour is essential for anyone visiting Santa Fe, whether for business or pleasure. For conference and event planners especially, I can think of few more powerful ways to open a convening than grounding participants in the living history of the land they're gathering on. Dr. Castro is a gifted guide, and her tour deserves a place in your programming."
